Curzon Cinema, Mayfair. 1965
Kenneth Tyhan, a celebrated film critic, stated when viewing the
auditorium, "Tonight I went to the cinema in the Chedder Gorge".
The Curzon Cinema is now, I believe, a listed building, and so it
should be. The seats are generous, the air-conditioning is first-rate. It
is superior to most so called modern cinemas.
When the cinema opened with a film without a message "Viva Maria", the
owner, Wingate, a property developer, wanted the walls washed with slowly
changing lighting which looked terrific. I believe this is no longer true,
which is a pity.
